The Scoop at the Place -- July 28th, 2005

This Week At The Place

This Sabbath Elder Rob Randall will be preaching at The Place while Pastor Simon and many others are away on the mission trip to Peru.

Elder Rob Randall will be leading out in the adult Sabbath School that meets at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary. They are exploring the book of Acts.

Danielle Martinez will be leading out in the Discipleship Training class at 10:30 a.m. The Discipleship class is going over the book, The Life You've Always Wanted, written by John Ortberg. This week the class will be going over chapter 8, which focuses on confession.

Mission Projects
We ask that you all continue to pray for Pastor Simon and the group of 30 that are currently in Peru on a mission trip. We know that they are ALL blessing SO many people with the building of a community center and church. We pray for a safe journey and stay and for a blessed time of working and fellowshipping.

Also, we want to remind all of you that there will be another mission project in August. This time, however, the project will be a local one of barn painting at 15 Hands Rescue Sanctuary. If you like horses or just helping kids, then we would love your help in painting a barn at Ventura Farms in Hidden Valley on Sunday, August 14th. 15-Hands Rescue Sanctuary gives underpriveleged kids an opportunity to ride and interact with horses. They need our help! We'll start painting around 8 am. and should be done by noon (or earlier if more people help!) For info or to reserve a spot, contact Alicia Adams at alicia@puconline.org or 805-573-0848.

Financial Budget for June
During June we recieved tithe of $14,726...this brings our total for the year to date to $74,365. We are being blessed.

We appreciate your support, but we fell a few thousand dollars short as our local budget for each month is 9,011 dollars. Year to date our church budget is $52,749, so we are currently reaching about 85% of our local church budget needs. We need your continued support and faithfulness in giving. Please continue to support your local church, THE PLACE! A reminder that you may return your tithes and offerings at church or on-line by clicking here. We appreciate your faithful support of the ministry of The Place!

Discipleship Sabbath School Class

We invite you to join the group and partake of this inspiring and very relevant book! Please contact Pastor Simon if you are interested in being a part of this wonderful Sabbath school class.

Children's Church
Our next Children's Church is scheduled for next Sabbath, June 11th. This is one of our newest ministries that started last month. This ministry is designed for the little ones at our church. Children learn about Christ through a Veggietales curriculum that involves song, story, crafts, games and of course, snacks! Next week's leader will be Heather Richmund. Last month's meeting was wonderful! Children's church will meet in the fellowship hall starting at 11:30.
We invite parents of children who are younger than the elementary age (younger than 5) to stay with their children as this is a fun-filled time in which children need much guidance.

Fellowship Luncheon and Baptism
Our next fellowship luncheon will take place next Sabbath, June 11th. We will be retreating to the Dappalonia's home after church services for a time of lunch and fellowship.
Also, following the luncheon there will be a special baptism for Danielle Martinez. We invite everyone to come and to please bring some food.

Congratulations To The Graduates!
We would like to congratulate all of the graduates out there who call The Place their home! 8th grade graduates from La Crescenta are Cameron Crabtree and Paige Nielsen; from CAES are Michael Dappalonia, Alex Roth and Brenda Wells; and 8th grade graduate Chase Patten.
Congratulations to Newbury Park High graduate Neil Hopkins and NPAA graduates Bre Nomelli, Jonathan Heldt, Sam Gomez, Brian Jacobson, Amber Lowe, Joram Matute, and John Stewart.
If we missed you...please let us know, we would love to offer you our congratulations as well!
NPAA Graduation commencement ceremony will take place on Sunday, June 5th at 10 a.m.

Beach Vespers Next Friday
We will be having our beach vespers next Friday, June 10th at 6:30 p.m. We will meet at our usual spot at Sycamore Cove. Snacks will be provided. This time is for EVERYONE....young and old, rich and poor, skinny and otherwise. Come out and share the beautiful sunset together and stay for a time of fellowship and fun!

Food Drive-Next Sabbath
This Memorial Day we had many reminders of the great country we live in. There were U.S. flags proudly displayed, parades to watch, and delicious food to be eaten. Many of us probably had much food left over from the gatherings around the barbeque grill. Unfortunately, in Ventura County there are 38,000 families who aren't worrying about what to do with leftovers, they are worrying about where their next meal will come from. Please help support the Ventura County Food Share program next Sabbath by bringing your canned goods. There will be a box in the lobby by the door marked "food drive". We thank you in advance for your generosity.

Surveys & New Ministries
There is only one more month left for some of this year's church offcers. Our mini-nominating committee will be meeting to fill vacant positions and to look for new ministries at The Place. We have handed out interest sheets the last few Sabbaths but still have not received all sheets back. We are very serious about knowing where your passions lie in ministry. This Sabbath we will once again be handing out survey sheets regarding your interests. If you are interested in being a part of ministry at The Place, we would love to know about it! And, please keep in mind, that ministry means ANYTHING that builds up the body of Christ - in our church community or in our local community or world!

We are also interested in starting new ministries. There are three areas of ministry in particular that we would like to see grow: Coffee Ministry, Collegiate Ministry, and a Wednesday night outreach ministry. We are looking for one or two (or more) people who would be interested in coordinating these ministries. If you are interested in leading out in any of these areas, please contact Pastor Simon at simonliversidge@hotmail.com.

Last week you received an email from The Place with both of these surveys...we are trying to make your life easier by giving you the option of filling them out and returning them electronically! Click on the link below to fill out the survey.
