This Week At The Place This Sabbath Pastor Simon will be preaching at The Place. This week Pastor Simon continues his series which focuses on Falling In Love With Jesus. This week is the second in his series and is entitled "Seeing Eyes."
We also have a new Daily Reading Plan to follow along with the series, pick up your copy this Sabbath.
Elder Rob Randall will be leading out in the adult Sabbath School that meets at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary. They are exploring the book of Acts.
Pastor Simon will be leading out in the Discipleship Sabbath School class. This week the group will begin a new book titled Lifestyle Evangelism by Joe Aldrich. This is a great time for new people to join and become part of this wonderful class.
Wild at Heart Men-This Sunday All men are invited to the next Wild At Heart Men's time scheduled for THIS Sunday, September 25th at 6 p.m. All men will be meeting at the Fulgham's house in Simi Valley. The men are doing something different this time...no sports. Instead, we are looking for men who would like to hang out and play some pool, games and in general have a good time...and of course, there will be FOOD! So, put that time on your calendar, men, and look for directions in the lobby on Sabbath.
Cafe Vespers-Next Friday We will be having a Cafe vespers next Friday night, September 30th at The Place. Vespers will start at 7:30 p.m. and snacks and refreshments will be served. Join us for a time of praise, worship, and fellowship.
Bible Study Training As many of you know, we have a new Bible worker, Mindy Stockton. Mindy is our new vibrant addition to The Place from Arizona. She will be with us for the next 9 months. Her primary task is to seek out people in our community who are interested in Bible Studies and to begin studying with them; and to help train us at church to be able to study the Bible with them!
So, we have decided to give YOU the opportunity to learn how to give Bible Studies (if you desire!) We are planning on using our Sabbath School time for 12 weeks, starting in the beginning of October for this purpose. We will use a series of Bible studies and go through them together - so we can learn how to give Bible studies and bring people to decision and to make sure that we know the topics well enough to be able to share them with other people. This is such an exciting opportunity for us as a church!
We are also thinking about offering this training on Wednesday nights at The Place. If you are interested or have questions, please talk to Mindy @ 805-807-6214 or Pastor Simon. We need to know within the next few weeks if you would like to be a part of this! We will have a sign up sheet at church this week if you would like to join us! Just let us know which time period would suit you better.
You may not be sure that you are capable of doing this....but don't be afraid, we will not pressure you. Just come and check it out and see if you are gifted in this way!
Financial Update-August 2005
The Place continues to grow through the blessing of God and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. But, as we begin and continue more and bigger ministries at The Place, we need your financial support. At this point, despite our numerical growth, we are still receiving about the same amount of giving to our church. Please pray about blessing your church with "your" money!
During August, we received $5,851 towards our church budget (for our local church needs), and $8,683 in tithe (which all goes to the So. Cal. Conference.) Year to date, we have received $57,099 towards church budget (which leaves us almost $14,000 behind budget); and $92,931 in tithe.
We appreciate your commitment and support of your church. If you would like to give online, you may do so at tithe.theplacechurch.com.
Mom's Ministry
Our mom's group will be meeting for it's monthly mommies only night. Next week is the time mommies wait for all month long! All mommies are invited to come out to P.F. Chang's at the new Thousand Oaks Civic Arts shopping area next Wednesday the 28th at 6:30 p.m.
And- just so that all mommies are in the know...there will only be one mommy and child activity planned a month plus the mommies only night. If you would like more information, please contact Heather Richmund.
Assistance For Hurricane Katrina Victims As you all know, thousands of people are suffering from the effects of Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf States of Louisana and Mississippi. Many are homeless and without food or medical supplies.
Your donations to help those afflicted by this disastrous hurricane have been greatly appreciated. The idea of adopting a family from the gulf states has been suggested. We'd like to know what you think.... Perhaps you are interested in assisting a specific family finacially and or physically with a place to live in the interim. If you are interested in this idea or in another, please contact Pastor Simon.
If you would like to help in another way, we recommend donating through ACS, the Adventist Community Services department (part of ADRA), which has been very active in deploying volunteers to distribute non-perishable food items, clothing, bedding, and needed medical supplies. If you would like to assist ACS in their relief efforts, we strongly encourage you to give by logging on to www.communityservices.org or by calling 877 - ACS - 2702. Or you may contact them if you are interested in volunteering in any capacity.

Money Matters & Student Aid
Yes, it is true...the school year is starting. For the past couple years we have been able to assist several families at The Place with financial aid to help their children attend our local SDA schools, Conejo Adventist Elementary School and Newbury Park Adventist Academy.
And, once again, we would like to be able to help families who would like some financial assistance for this current school year. But, you need to let us know how we can help. Starting this Sabbath, we will have applications for student financial assistance available in the lobby at The Place. If you would like to apply, pick one up and contact Pastor Simon or the chairman of our Finance Committee Geoff Wolcott at gnwolcott@yahoo.com.
And, as always, we appreciate your financial support at The Place! While we try not to push for money...we always need your faithful support of our ministry at our church and in our community.
As a reminder, you may give at The Place or online at tithe.theplacechurch.com.
