The Scoop At The Place - March 30th, 2006
This Week At The PlaceWe look forward to seeing you this Sabbath at The Place and pray that you are having a blessed week! This week Pastor Simon will be preaching. The title of his sermon is "The Kingdom and The Church" It is the second of his mini-series on the kingdom of heaven as we prepare for Easter. And, even though our sermon series on prayer is ending, we invite you to continue your new habit of daily prayer!! We hope your prayer life has been a blessing to you and your prayers are growing in strength. We invite you to join us in daily prayer for our families, our church and our community...especially at 3:00 p.m. daily. All Sabbath Schools, including the new music Sabbath School class, will meet at 10:30 a.m. However, there will be no Discipleship meeting as the classes are over. Rob Randall will be leading the adult Sabbath school who are currently studying the book of Acts. We also have the "Little Place" with Sabbath school classes for infants and toddlers, kindergarten aged children, earliteen classes, and youth sabbath school. Stop by and be blessed! And, if you are not able to make it to The Place this Sabbath, please remember that you always have access to the sermons on-line (we even podcast!!). New Member Luncheon-This SabbathWe will have another new member luncheon this coming Sabbath, April 1st following church services. This is a luncheon for all new members that joined the Place in 2005/06 and who were not able to attend last month's meeting. It will be a potluck luncheon, so please bring food to share and then plan on staying and sharing about God, the vision for The Place, and future plans. New Sabbath School on the SanctuaryWe will be starting a new Sabbath School on Sabbath, April 8th, at 10:30 a.m. It will be a topical study of the Sanctuary doctrine. We will be using Dr. Roy Gane's book, Altar Call, as our outline. The study will be co-lead by Pastor Simon and Bill Werner. We have already ordered books, but we need to know if you want to be a part of this study. If so, you may sign up on the sheet at church this Sabbath, or contact Simon or Bill directly. We are looking forward to a great time in the Word! Tijuana Mission ProjectAs many of you may know by now, we have made our commitment to build a church this summer in Tijuana, Baja, California. This will be another Maranatha project such as we experienced last summer in Peru. Except, this will be closer to home. The date is now firm...it will be the week of July 16-23rd. Now that we have committed The Place, we are looking for volunteers! First, we need to raise the $20,000 to build the church, and then we need to go there and build it! So, if you are interested in fund-raising or going as part of the project, let's talk... please contact Pastor Simon. And-if you are planning on being a part of this wonderful experience...please submit your $100 deposit as soon as possible. Thanks! Monthly Food Drive-Next SabbathNext Sabbath is our monthly canned food drive. The items that we collect are distributed to thousands of children, seniors and families in our community. Last month we had many donations of peanut butter, tuna fish, and diapers. These items were greatly needed. The Ventura County Food Share is very thankful for our donations and kindness. However, they are still in need of peanut butter and diapers. There will be a box by the door next Sabbath for your contributions. Thank you for your continued support for our community. Youth CalendarAll the youth are invited for a Friday Night get together at Dawn & Harley Peterson's home, 187 Hilliard Lane, Newbury Park (behind NPAA) on Friday, April 7th from 7-9 p.m. to relax and hang out with your friends. There will be hot chocolate and cinnamon rolls. And-mark the date...the next Big House Vespers is scheduled for April 21st. Stay tuned for more details. Also, the NPAA gym is open to all youth on Sunday evenings from 6-8 p.m. for fun and games. Easter CelebrationEaster is just around the corner (April 16th), and we are gearing up to celebrate this glorious occasion commemorating the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ! We will begin by celebrating on Sabbath with a special program at church and then having our fellowship luncheon. And, on Sunday, we will continue to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ with a morning service at 9 a.m. at Dos Vientos Park. There will also be an Easter egg hunt for the children following Sunday's service. We invite all of you to come and share in this special time...and bring your friends too! Pastor's Study and Small GroupsWe have begun our Pastor's study on Wednesday nights at The Place. We have been enoying the chance to really get into Christian/SDA doctrine. There is plenty of time for questions and awesome discussion. Our meetings are sheduled on Wednesday nights starting at 7 p.m. This week we will be looking at the Holy Spirit. And-don't forget that we have many small groups that are going strong...some may even be closer to you than you think! You can check out all the groups on-line by clicking on the link below. Vespers and Communion This Friday Night We will be having our next Place vespers THIS coming Friday night, March 24th at The Place at 7 p.m. We will have a time of worship, spend time in God's word, and share communion together, and will serve refreshments afterward. Please join us for a time of praise, worship, and communion. We look forward to sharing this special time with all of you. Everyone is invited to come and commune together.
New Sabbath School on the Sanctuary We will be starting a new Sabbath School on Sabbath, April 8th, at 10:30 a.m. It will be a topical study of the Sanctuary doctrine. Mommies Ministry We have one more mommy event this month- next Wednesday night. If you are a mommy, please join us for a game night next Wednesday evening, the 29th at Denise Ramirez's home. The fun will start at 6 p.m. If you are planning on attending, please bring a wrapped gift (something from home that you don't mind parting with, please don't spend any money), and rsvp to Denise as soon as possible through the link provided below.
Our mommy of the month is still Leila and she has been very blessed by all of the love showered on her...massages, house cleaning, home improvement, nights out, dinners, flowers (and the list goes on). If you haven't yet, please give Leila a call and brighten her day. Leila's home number is 480-9039. And-please continue to keep her and her family in your prayers.

New Member Luncheon We will have another new member luncheon on Sabbath, April 1st following church services. This is a luncheon for all new members that joined the Place in 2005/06 and who were not able to attend last month's meeting. February Financial Update Once again, we would like to share with you about our finances so far this year. During the month of February we received $11,596 in tithe...which goes to our local conference. We also received $4,640 in offerings towards our local church budget. That is an unusually low amount for one month, and i only about half what we need for our local church budget...which supports all our ministries at The Place and pays our rent! I know you have been generous in the past, but we encourage you to continue to support our local church as well as through your tithes. Mission Project-This Summer Yes, it is true. We have made our commitment to build a church this summer in Tijuana, Baja, California. This will be another Maranatha project such as we experienced last summer in Peru. Except, this will be closer to home. The date is now firm...it will be the week of July 16-23d. Now that we have committed The Place, we are looking for volunteers! First, we need to raise the $20,000 to build the church, and then we need to go there and build it! So, if you are interested in fund-raising or going as part of the project, let's talk... please contact Pastor Simon. We will meet together with those interested after church this Sabbath just for a few minutes to talk (March 25th.)
Pastor's Study and Small Groups We have begun our Pastor's study on Wednesday nights at The Place. We have been enoying the chance to really get into Christian/SDA doctrine. There is plenty of time for questions and awesome discussion. Our meetings are sheduled on Wednesday nights starting at 7 p.m. This week we will be looking at Jesus Christ...God. But, this week, just to be special, our Pastor's study will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Simon and Cecilia's house - 1727 Calle Artigas, Thousand Oaks. Please contact Simon if you need directions.

Fellowship Luncheon & Bowling-This Sabbath We will be having our monthly fellowship luncheon this Sabbath after church services. We invite you to stay for this delicious time of lunch as well as the wonderful time of fellowship. Bring your crockpots as this month's theme is soup, salad and dessert. If you would like to sign up to bring something (and we encourage you to do so), please contact Heidi Figueroa at 805-583-2154, or simply bring something to share.
And, later on that evening, we invite you for a night of bowling. Please bring your friends out to Harley's Simi Bowl located in ...you guessed it, Simi Valley. We will be meeting at 7:30 p.m. There will be a sign up sheet in the lobby this Sabbath in order to have a more accurate head count. Harley's is located at 480 E. Los Angeles Ave and the phone number is 805-526-4212. Hope to see you there!
Wild At Heart Men's Time The next Wild At Heart Men's Time is scheduled for this Sunday, March 18th. Please meet at the park on the corner of Wendy and Kimber at 10 a.m. for a time of prayer, sharing, and games.
New Baby & Mommies Stuff Congratulations go out to new parents Ken & Amy Miller on the birth of their little girl this past Monday. Kaia Cheyenne Miller was born on Monday, March 13th at 7:08p.m. She weighed 9lbs, 4oz and measured 21 inches. Parents and baby are doing well. We look forward to meeting little Kaia very soon.
We are having some wonderful mommy events this month- not all on Wednesday - so watch for that! But first of all, please know that our "Mommy of the Month" is Leila Silva!!! Her husband is going to be traveling for work a whole lot this month. This is a great opportunity for you to give her some extra tender loving care - but remember you can do these things as your schedule allows - there are no rules!!! Some of the things that Leila has requested are:
Prayer (so important we pray for Leila this month & keep Sally in your prayers as well!) Lisa has her yearly evaluations throughout the month of March and then the meeting to find out whether the government will continue to support her education at Conejo Elementary School is in April... Please pray specifically for this event as well as her whole family and the safety of Marcello as he travels this month.
She requested more than anything, to have the opportunity to get some projects done in her house, girlfriends to do those projects with and help with the kids while the work is being done. So, this gives you all the opportunity to shower Leila with a lot of love, take her out to lunch, send her a card, give her a phone call and pray pray pray!!! This is such a special part of the Mommies Ministry - because it truly is a way for us all to take care of our own!!!!!!!!!
OK, this month's events are going to be varied and fun - so here they are:
March 16 (this afternoon!!)- We will be taking a fieldtrip to Janss Park from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. It's a perfectly gorgeous day to take the little ones out to have some fun! Let's meet by the pond...
March 19 - Sunday - 3-5 p.m.- Let's all meet at Leila's house to help her with her house projects... Be ready to paint or refinish some furniture or anything else that comes up between now and then!!!
March 29 - Wednesday night is our monthly Girl's Night Out!!! This will be a game night!! We'll all just hang out and play table games and snack on goodies!! Denise Ramirez has agreed to open her home for this fun event!!! Fun Fun Fun!!!!

Food Drive & Children's Church This Sabbath This Sabbath (the second Sabbath of each month) we will have our monthly canned food drive. This Sabbath, March 11th, we will be having our monthly children's church. This is a time designed especially for the little ones as they learn about Jesus and Christian values through story, music, crafts, and snack. This month's leader is Heather Richmund. Children's Church starts at 11:30 in the fellowship hall. We invite you and your children to check it out!

Fellowship Lunch and Bowling next Sabbath and a few things after that Next Sabbath, March 18th, we will be having our monthly fellowship luncheon. Stay tuned for all the details of the theme for this month, but make sure to save that time for our special fellowship together.
And, that evening, we invite you to STRIKE up some new friendships at the bowling alley. We invite you and your friends to come out to our March social event on Saturday night, March 18th. We will be bowling at Harley's Bowl in Simi Valley starting at 7:30 p.m. Spare no effort to make it.
And, while you have your calendars out, we will have the next Men's Wild at Heart time on Sunday, March 19th and our next Place Vespers on Friday night, March 24th.

Pastor's Study - Wednesday Evenings (but NOT next week!) We have begun our Pastor's study on Wednesday nights at The Place. We have been enoying the chance to really get into Christian/SDA doctrine. There is plenty of time for questions and awesome discussion.
We normally meet on Wednesday nights at 7 p.m. at The Place for a time of study, prayer, and sharing. But, this week, we have our FINANCE and STEERING Committees, so the Pastor's study will not meet. But, we are ready to welcome you and your friends the following week (March 22.)
Miscellaneous - jobs, rooms and more First, we have a request for someone looking for a room to rent. Richard and Arla Caraboolad's nephew is coming to do an internship in Westlake for 6 months. If you have a room he could rent, please contact Richard at 805-522-2474.
Also, there are several church members looking for jobs at the moment...if you have leads or can actually hire someone, please talk to Pastor Simon. We want to try and bless one another in every way possible. Thanks.
New Small Group for Collegiates/Young Adults There is a new small group forming designed especially for 18-30 year olds. It will meet on Thursday nights, starting next week, March 16th. Tami Hartman will be coordinating. Please contact Tami at 805-907-9093 for any further information, or you may talk to Pastor Simon. We are excited about this new small group, and we hope that you are to!

New Member Luncheon-This Sabbath We are starting something new this year, a lunch and Sabbath afternoon time together with our new members. Since we have not done this before, we are going to start BIG! We are kindly requesting the presence of all members who have joined The Place in 2005 and 2006 to a Sabbath Fellowship Luncheon this Sabbath, March 5th. This will be a potluck time in our Fellowship Hall. Following lunch, we will spend some time together sharing the vision and mission of The Place, inviting you to share your passions and ministry ideas and to get you acquainted with life as a member of our church.
We realize that many of you are already fully integrated into church membership, but we would like to invite you anyways!!

Whale Watching Trip-This Sunday Yes, the weather is getting beautiful, the sea is beckoning, and the whales are saying adieu. So, keep this coming Sunday morning, March 5th available for a whale watching excursion out of the Channel Islands in Ventura. The Cost is $20 per person and the trip will be from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Contact Caleb Guevara for more information @ 805-796-7035. There will be a sign up sheet again this Sabbath...many of you have already signed up, so don't miss out.
Children's Church & Monthly Food Drive-Next Sabbath Next Sabbath, March 11th, we will be having our monthly children's church. This is a time designed especially for the little ones as they learn about Jesus and Christian values through story, music, crafts, and snack. This month's leader is Heather Richmund. Children's Church starts at 11:30 in the fellowship hall.
Next Sabbath we will have our monthly canned food drive. The items that we collect are distributed to thousands of children, seniors and families in our community. They are in special need of peanut butter, tuna fish and diapers. There will be a box by the door next Sabbath for your contributions. March Social Event and a few other upcoming events Bowling anyone??? We invite you and your friends to come out to our March social event on Saturday night, March 18th. We will be bowling at Harley's Bowl in Simi Valley starting at 7:30 p.m. Save the date!
Also, we will be having our next men's Wild at Heart day on Sunday, March 19th and our monthly church vespers on Friday night, March 24th.
Pastor's Study - Wednesday Evenings We have begun our Pastor's study on Wednesday nights at The Place. The study time has been a blessing as well as an enlightening study time on Christian doctrine. Please join us on Wednesday nights at 7 p.m. at The Place for a time of study, prayer, and sharing. We welcome new people!!!
Mission Project-This Summer We are committing our church to a mission project in Tijuana, Baja California for this summer. The project will involve building a church and of course, the fundraising to build the church. The trip will likely be mid to late July. You will be hearing more about this project in the next few weeks, but if you are interested or have questions, please contact Pastor Simon.
New Small Group for Collegiates/Young Adults There will be a new small group forming soon. This small group is designed especially for 18-30 year olds and will meet on Thursday nights. Tami Hartman will be coordinating. Please contact Tami at 805-907-9093 for any further information, or you may talk to Pastor Simon. We are excited about this new small group, and we hope that you are to! It will meet for the first time on Thursday night, March 16th. Also, we have many other small groups meeting. You can find a complete list on our church website. Don't miss out on the incredible fellowship and spiritual maturity through our weekly times together.
