The Scoop at The Place - July 20, 2006
This Week At The Place We look forward to seeing you this Sabbath at The Place. This week Elder Rob Randall will be preaching at The Place. All Sabbath School classes will meet this week with the exception of the Sanctuary class. Pastor Simon and Bill Werner have concluded this class. Stay tuned for another class like this starting soon. Our Sabbath School classes meet at 10:30 a.m. Rob Randall will be leading the general adult Sabbath school which will begin studying the book of Romans, and, Harley Peterson will be leading out anyone interested in music...in our music Sabbath School. We also have the "Little Place" with Sabbath School classes for infants and toddlers, kindergarten-aged children, earliteen classes, and youth sabbath school. Stop by and be blessed! Prayer For Mission Trip Volunteers All of our mission trip volunteers are still in Tijuana, Mexico busy with the building of a church for 200 believers. All thirty-six volunteers have been working hard and having a blessed time together. We ask that you continue to pray for a spirit driven time as well as their safe return this coming Sunday, July 23rd. Beach Vespers-Next Friday Night We will have our next beach vespers on Friday evening, July 28th at our usual spot in Sycamore Cove. Vespers will begin at 6:30 p.m. Please bring some friends and blankets and come enjoy this time of fellowship. Youth Beach Camping/Ski Trip The youth are planning another camping and water ski trip the weekend of August 11th-13th. ALL youth are encouraged to participate in this fun event. Mommies Ministry The mommies ministry has planned some wonderful events for the summer months of July and August. This Sunday, July 23rd- Spa Day for mommies only at Denise's house starting at 10 a.m. Denise is at 4431 Paseo De La Paz in Newbury Park, phone # 805-498-3365. And-next week's activity is scheduled for Wednesday, July 26th- Tapo Rancho Community Park. Let's meet at 3 p.m. and have some wet fun with the kiddies. Directions are exit Sycamore & turn left, turn right on Alamo, and then a left on Lemon the park will be on the right hand side. This is also FREE. Also on the agenda is our second annual "SPA DAY" at "Spa De La Paz". This very fun and relaxing event is scheduled for THIS COMING Sunday, July 23rd at Denise's home. Denise is at 4431 Paseo De La Paz in Newbury Park, phone # 805-498-3365. This is one of the most anticipated events of all year. ALL mommies are invited to Spa De La Paz (hosted by Denise Rqamirez) for a day of pampering. Lunch will be catered for $10 a person and you may also choose from a variety of treatments. However, we NEED to know if you plan on attending and what service you would like to receive. Please contact Alisa Kalberg via the link listed below or @ 805-582-0304 to reserve a time and treatment ASAP!!. This will be a day you won't want to miss! Manicures will run about $20, pedicures $35, massages and facials $45 for 30 minutes or $70 for an hour massage or facial, or a 30 min massage & a 30 min facial for $80, or a 90 min massage and a 90 min facial for $100 or a 60 min massage & a 60 minute facial for $140. Financial News- June Yes, it is that time of the month again...the time to praise God! We continue to be blessed as a church family with faithful giving and support of our church and its various ministries. During the month of June, we received $17,319 in tithe, giving us a total for the year of $78,940. We also received $18,526 in giving to our local church budget, bringing us to a total of $57,036 for the year. That means we are a mere $4,500 behind our church budget for this year! That is a blessing. Thank you so much for your faithful giving. We also wanted to thank you for your generosity in supporting our mission project to Tijuana. It has been a blessing to many and will be an incredible blessing to the church we are building in Tijuana! We invite and need your continued support of The Place and its ministry in our community. You may give at The Place or on-line by clicking on the link/. Pator's Study Just a reminder that we have a Wednesday evening class available to ALL individuals. You are invited to come to The Place on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. for a Pastor's study led out by Pastor Simon. For more information about this class, please contact Simon. This Week At The Place/Sabbath Morning Community Prayer Time We look forward to seeing you this Sabbath at The Place. This week Pastor Simon will conclude his series over the book of 1 John, focused on Finding Joy. This week's sermon is titled "Testimony Of Joy," and focuses on 1 John 5. We will also be praying over and sending off our group of missionaries to Tijuana.
Also, this Sabbath, we are having our monthly CHILDREN'S CHURCH. It will meet at 11:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Meg Quilop will be leading out and we invite all our young ones to come and enjoy a great time together in worship and spiritual education.
You are invited to attend a special morning prayer time this coming Sabbath (and EVERY week!) at 9:45 a.m. before Sabbath School. Come join us and pray over our church, and for special needs in the community. Hope to see many of you there!

Fellowship Luncheon-This Sabbath We will be having our monthly fellowship luncheon this Sabbath. This month's theme is "picnic luncheon." Some of the food items that we will need are: veggie hot dogs, veggie hamburgers, buns, potato salad, baked beans, salads, fruit, chips, desserts, and drinks. If you decide to bring the hot dogs or burgers, please bring them in a crockpot so they can stay warm for lunch. Please contact April Fowler at (805) 523-8489 as she will be leading out this month.
And-just to celebrate in like style, we will be eating this week's lunch outside on the grass, so please bring blankets, lawn chairs and or umbrellas.
Mission Trip Volunteers Leave All of our volunteers will be leaving this Sabbath for Tijuana, Baja California and returning the following Sunday. Thirty-six volunteers are heading down to build a church for a community of 200 believers. We thank all of those going on this trip as well as all of you for supporting this mission through your financial support and prayers. We espccially thank our church family for your wonderful support last Saturday night in our Fiesta Dinner/Benefit Auction!
Please continue to pray for the power of the Holy Spirit for all of them and for their safe arrival and return and a blessed time together.
Youth Beach Vespers Tomorrow Night & a Camping/Ski Trip The youth are planning several activities in the very near future. First, there is a beach vespers scheduled for tomorrow evening, Friday, July 14th at Sycamore Cove. Please come and share in food, fellowship and worship together starting at 6:30 p.m. All young ones are invited!!
The youth group is also planning a camping and water ski trip August 11th-13th. ALL youth are encouraged to participate in this fun event. Please contact Dan Roth @ 805-527-6642 or Robert Nomelli @ 818-292-6143 to sign up or for more details. We hope you can make it!

This performance is FREE and starts at 11 a.m. next to the pond located at The Lakes (next to the T.O. civic arts plaza). We will stay for lunch afterward....

The Kingsmen Shakespeare Festival We have a delightful event right here in Thousand Oaks that we can share together next Saturday night, July 22nd. The Kingsmen Shakespeare Festival holds it's performances at California Lutheran Univeristy-Kingsmen Park-60 W. Olsen Road. Admission is $10 for adults and those 18 years and younger are admitted free. Bring a low profile, low back lawn chair or blanket and warm outerwear for cool evenings. Grounds open at 5:30 and most bring a picnic dinner to enjoy during the pre-show entertainment. Performances begin at 8 p.m. but so much happens before then.

Financial News-June Yes, it is that time of the month again...the time to praise God! We continue to be blessed as a church family with faithful giving and support of our church and its various ministries. During the month of June, we received $17,319 in tithe, giving us a total for the year of $78,940.

Wedding Celebrations This weekend, love is in the air. We would like to congratulate Xavier Lemond and Rachelle Pullen who are to wed this coming Saturday evening in Camarillo and Michael Peabody and Danielle Martinez who will be getting married on Sunday in Malibu. God bless your new lives together. We all wish you God's richest blessings!
Acts of Love There is still time for you to participate in acts of love and bless the army man. We have added another week so that you may bring something for a soldier stationed overseas. We want to bless John Alcala who is in the army and currently stationed in Afghanistan. His fiance, Lilia Ochoa is presently studying with Pastor Simon. John would love to hear from us and receive care packages. So, with that said, please bring any goodies you would like to send by this coming Sabbath, July 8th. If you would like to know exactly what to bring, please check the list of items in the red, white, and blue box located in the church lobby. Tijuana Mission Trip Fiesta Benefit Dinner & Auction-This Saturday Night Our mission trip is literally around the corner. Next week 39 people will be heading out to Tijuana, Mexico to build a new church for almost 200 believers. But...we still need your help!
Our goal is to raise $20,000 for this project. It will fund the building of a new church. How can you help???
You can help by coming to our BIG Fundraiser (and by bringing your money and your friends too) that will take place this coming Saturday night, July 8th at 6:30 p.m. This will be our Fiesta Benefit Dinner & Auction held at the Newbury Park Adventist Academy cafeteria (go straight off the Wendy Drive exit north off the 101, and turn right into the Academy.) It will be a Mexican theme with wonderful home-made Mexican food, live entertainment, and child care and even a pinata for the kids. There will be live and silent auctions, which are the fund-raising part of the evening...with many great items and services to bid on!
We would LOVE for everyone to attend this benefit!!

World Cup Finals Party-This Sunday We will be having a World Cup Party this Sunday, July 9th to watch the FINALS of the World Cup between Italy and France. The fun will start at 10:30 a.m. at Randy Aybar's house in Wood Ranch. We invite you and your friends to come out and have some fun! Please bring some breakfast food to share. Randy is located at 296 Fawn Valley Ct. in Wood Ranch inside Simi Valley (go east on Olsen off the 23; turn right on Wood Ranch; and left onto South Lake Park Dr., and right onto Fawn Valley Ct.)
Mommies Ministry The mommies ministry met last week and has planned some wonderful events for the summer months of July and August. This week's activity is a day at the Santa Barbara Zoo. Wednesday, July 12th- We will meet at the Starbucks located in the village plaza (next to NPAA) at 9:45 a.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children 2 and up, parking is $3. They have a new Penguin Exhibit...Directions:From the South on U.S. 101 (Going North): Take the Hot Springs / Cabrillo Boulevard Exit. Turn left on Cabrillo and continue to the first stop light. Turn right on Ninos Drive. The entrance is about 2 blocks on the right side. Note: If you miss your exit, you can use the Milpas Street exit and follow the directions below after going LEFT on Milpas Street.

On Sunday, July 23rd, you are invited over to Denise Ramirez' home for a day of utter and complete pampering. You can come relax and sit by the pool and enjoy some of the wonderful food that will be catered for only about $10 or you may truly bask and receive a massage, facial, manicure, and/or pedicure. Children's Church-Next Sabbath We will not be having our regularly scheduled children's church this Sabbath. Instead, we will be having this month's children's church next Sabbath, the third Sabbath of the month. Please bring your little one to the Fellowship Hall at 11:30 a.m. for an hour of story, music, craft, and snacks.
