The Scoop at The Place - October 26th, 2006
This Week At The PlaceWe look forward to seeing you at The Place this Sabbath. This week Pastor Simon will be preaching at The Place. This week's sermon is titled "The Community of Discipleship" which will focus on Luke chapter 10 and is the fifth in Pastor Simon's series on discipleship. There will also be a musical response by Shearin Matute. We invite you to Sabbath School this week. Our Sabbath School classes meet at 10:30 a.m. Rob Randall will be leading the general adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans. We also have the "Little Place" with Sabbath School classes for infants and toddlers, kindergarten aged children, earliteen classes, and youth sabbath school. Stop by and be blessed! You are also invited to attend our community prayer time at The Place every Sabbath before Sabbath School starting at 9:45 a.m. Come and pray for our church or bring your special needs. And-we appreciate your faithful giving. You may return your tithes and offerings at The Place or online by clicking on the link provided. Fall Fest-This Saturday NightComing up this Saturday night, October 28th is our annual Fall Fest. This year's celebration will be held in the NPAA cafeteria starting at 6:30 p.m. Please come dressed in your favorite retro gear as this year's theme will be the 70's. We will have a pumpkin carving contest as well as karaoke for kids of all ages. Our dinner menu will be soups, cornbread, and dessert. But...we need you to help us with this by signing up to bring something. You can still sign up to bring soup, cornbread, or dessert this Sabbath in the lobby. Our Fall Fest is one of our church's highlights of the year and will include our very own Fall Fest Band!! Please plan on coming out and enjoying this truly festive time together!! Baby, Baby, & Baby ShowerThe New Year will see our membership growing yet again with new additions coming to: the Liversidge family, Shea family, and Brandon Fausset family. Our church is planning a combined shower to prepare for these blessed ones on Saturday night, November 18th at the Bachmann’s home in Westlake. Watch for details in the upcoming weeks. If you would like to help with snacks please call Cindy Andregg@(805)376-1115. This should be a really fun time. All ladies are registered at babies r us. Saturday November 4thWe invite you to join is on Sabbath, November 4th, to hear the CAES choir as they will be singing at The Place. Also happening on the fourth of November is a special concert at Pepperdine University in Malibu. Jars of Clay will be having a concert starting at 6:30 p.m. This is a general admission concert and tickets are $18. If you are interested in going to this concert, please sign up in the lobby this Sabbath or contact Pastor Simon. November Social
Save the date! We will be heading out to our local Ice Skating rink in Simi Valley on Saturday night, November 11th for a night of cold fun. Stay tuned for more details. Mommies MinistryWe are pleased to announce that one of our mommies, Lillia Ochoa has given birth to a little girl. Kennedy Alcala was born last Saturday, October 21st. Both mommy and baby are doing well. In order to celebrate this special time with Lillia, the mommies ministry will be organizing meals throughout the month of October as well as collecting money towards a gift certificate in lew of a baby shower. If you are interested in signing up to take Lillia a meal and/or interested in donating to the gift certificate, please contact Alisa Kalberg at 805-582-0304 or at ACKalberg@aol.com. And-the mommies ministry will be having a Christmas party and gift exchange in December. Small GroupsAre you interested in starting or being a part of a Friday Night Collegiate/Young Adult small group? If you would like to know more about this area of ministry or if are interested in starting another type of small group, please call Pastor Simon at 805-498-2300. Ecuador 2007We are already looking at tentative dates for the Ecuador Mission trip next year. We are planning on building another church in Southern Ecuador tentaviely from July 31st through August 12th. We are being assigned the exact project and date THIS WEEK! This Week At The Place We look forward to seeing you at The Place this Sabbath. This week Pastor Simon will be preaching at The Place. This week's sermon is titled "The Commitment of Discipleship" which will focus on Matthew chapter 10 and is the fourth in Pastor Simon's series on discipleship. There will also be a video clip about commitment filmed and edited by Ralph Figueroa.
We invite you to Sabbath School this week. Our Sabbath School classes meet at 10:30 a.m. Rob Randall will be leading the general adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans.
We also have the "Little Place" with Sabbath School classes for infants and toddlers, kindergarten aged children, earliteen classes, and youth sabbath school. Stop by and be blessed!

And-we appreciate your faithful giving. During the month of September we received $20,632 in tithe, bringing our yearly total to $127,180. This is approximately $23,000 more than last year at this time!! We also received $11,004 in giving to our local church budget, bringing our yearly total to $84,844. This is also significantly more than last year at this time, and puts us right about even with our church budget so far this year. Thank you for your faithful support. Friday Night Film Vespers-This Friday Night We will have our next vespers this Friday night, October 20th (tomorrow night) at The Place. We will start at 7 p.m. and we'll be watching "End Of The Spear". This is a great film about missionaries in Ecuador who focused on their commitment to sharing the gospel with unreached people even at the cost of their lives. There will be refreshments and a time for sharing afterwards. Please come out and join us and bring a friend! One caution...this film may not be suitable for very young children.
Monthly Fellowship Luncheon-This Sabbath Our monthly fellowship luncheon is scheduled for this coming Sabbath. This week the small group that meets at Aaron and Denise Ramirez' home will be hosting a soup, salad, and bread luncheon. We invite you to stay after services to enjoy a delicious lunch with us...and bring a friend! If you can bring a dish to share, that would be appreciated. Our luncheon will be held in the fellowship hall.
Baby Shower for Lucero Diaz-granados This Sunday One of our members, Lucero Diaz-granados recently gave birth to a bouncing baby boy on September 25th. Herman and Lucero Diazgranados are ecstatic about the new addition to their household, little Andres Alonso. You are invited to celebrate with Lucero this Sunday at Cecilia Liversidge's home. Lucero's shower will start at 10 a.m. Cecilia's address is 1727 Calle Artigas in Thousand Oaks and Lucero is registered at Babies R'Us. Please come and share in their joy.
Fall Fest-In Two Weeks! Coming up on Saturday night, October 28th is our annual Fall Fest. Mommie's Ministry Our monthly scheduled "Girl's Night Out" is fast approaching. If you are a mommy then you are invited to come out for a night with the girls next Thursday evening, October 26th. We will be meeting at P.F. Chang's at The Lakes at 6:30 p.m. for dinner and a name exchange. If you are interested in participating in the christmas gift exchange, please come and fill out your card with a list of your preferences. If you are unable to make it on Thursday, please contact me at href="mailto:cecilialiversidge@hotmail.com">cecilialiversidge@hotmail.com so that I can make sure you are in the loop. This year's Christmas party for the mommies is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, December 3rd at Denise Ramirez' home. We will be cooking together and then feasting!!! We hope you can make it!
And-if you haven't given our mommy of the month, Tami Hartman, a call yet...what are you waiting for? She only has a few more weeks of pampering left. Tami's number is 449-0076.
Youth Update We are so happy to announce that Bre Nomelli had agreed to be our new youth leader for this coming year! Bre is currently attending Moorpark College and has been very involved with our youth in the past. If you a high school or academy student, you will be hearing from her. If you have ideas for ministry or fun, please share them with her. Her phone # is 805-807-0581.
Discipleship Group Our Discipleship group continues to meet on Wednesday nights and on Sabbath mornings. If you are interested, please contact Pastor Simon. And, for those of you who are not involved in a community yet, we have various small groups that meet on a weekly basis. If you have not tried one yet, what better time to celebrate the holidays?! The Fireplace Children's Church-This Sabbath The "Fireplace" is scheduled for this coming Sabbath, October 14th. The Fireplace is our children's church and takes place the second Sabbath of every month. All children are invited to attend this wonderful time of learning about Jesus through story, craft, and music. The Fireplace meets in the Fellowship Hall at 11:30 a.m. This week's leaders are the Roeske and Bachmann families. Monthly Food Drive-This Sabbath Every month we collect canned goods, diapers, wipies, and formula to donate to the Ventura County Food Share. The Ventura County Food Share provides food to over 60,000 families. This Sabbath you may bring your donation and place it in the box marked "food drive" that will be in the lobby. We appreciate your generosity. Michael W. Smith Concert This Saturday Night Michael W. Smith will be in concert this Saturday night and we still have a few tickets left! Michael will be in concert at Calvary Community Church in Westlake at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $22 each. For more information, contact Sherry Jackson at 805-405-4283 or ask Pastor Simon. Michael W. Smith is an incredible musician and worshipper. This is an awesome concert...don't miss out if you like contemporary Christian music. Wild At Heart Men's Time-This Sunday It has been a while, but men's time is back! All men are invited to come out this Sunday morning for a time of playing basketball, football and whatever else we come up with. We also have a time of sharing and lunch together if you desire. The manly man time will begin at 10 a.m. at the park located on the corner of Wendy & Kimber in Newbury Park. Friday Night Film Vespers We will have our next vespers on Friday night, October 20th at The Place. We will be watching an awesome movie about a missionary family titled "End Of The Spear". It is about the commitment of 5 missionary families in Ecuador and is an incredibly uplifting and motivating film. Our night will start at 7 p.m. and will include a time of worship and refreshments. Please come out and join us and bring a friend! One caution...this film may not be suitable for very young children. This week Michael Peabody, one of our members at The Place will speak. Michael is the liaison with the California State Legislature in Sacramento, for the Pacific Union Conference for Religious Liberty. His sermon is called, "The Power of Hope." We invite you to Sabbath School this week. Our Sabbath School classes meet at 10:30 a.m. Rob Randall will be leading the general adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans. We also have the "Little Place" with Sabbath School classes for infants and toddlers, kindergarten aged children, earliteen classes, and youth sabbath school. Stop by and be blessed! Our next family volleyball night is scheduled for this Saturday evening, October 7th. Members, you are invited too...but, we also invite you to bring some food to share. We hope to see you there! This week's luncheon will be hosted by Jim and Vickie Lemasters. The Lemasters live at 2091 Fernwood Court, Simi Valley - 805-526-4182. Directions will be available at The Place. Children's Church & Monthly Food Drive-Next Sabbath Kids...it is almost that time again. Next Sabbath, October 14th is the second Sabbath of the month, and that means "The Fireplace" is coming. The Fireplace is our new children's church, and we invite all our young ones to come and get fired up for God at 11:30 p.m. And, October 14th is also our Sabbath for our monthly food drive. Each month we collect dry foods and canned goods for needy people here in Ventura County. Please plan ahead...put some food aside, and bring it next Sabbath! 30 Hour Famine and soccer The Newbury Park Academy youth will be participating in a 30 hour famine October 6th through 7th to raise money for third world countries. Friday, October 20th- A trip to the pumpkin Patch at Underwood Family Farms in Moorpark. Admission is $3 per person, children 2 and under are free. The farm closes at 6 p.m
(dress in layers!) Thursday, October 26th- Girls Night Out to dinner at P.F. Changs at The Lakes Plaza in T.O.And- this month we will be giving some extra T.L.C. to new mommy Tami Hartman. Give her a call and brighten her day!
