Blanket Drive and community service projects
We are currently working on a home made blanket drive, in support of seriouly ill children in Ventura County. This project is called "Project Linus". Project Linus is a nonprofit organization who's mission is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer "blanketeers."

If you would like to participate by making a blanket, we will have a box by the door, to collect hand made blankets until Sabbath, February 11th. The blankets must be washable. The blankets that we donate will be distributed to hospitals, family organizations and fire departments throughout Ventura County. If you have any questions, contact Cindy Schumacher - Cindy6359@msn.com or Sandy Duarte - brimic4514@aol.com.

Also, the Adventist churches of Ventura County have invited The Place to participate in "health ministries". This is a new ministry to reach out to our local community in a positive way. Several options for this new ministry have been discussed, such as renting a kiosk at the mall, giving classes on diabetes & weight management, stop smoking seminars, etc. If you would like to be a part of this ministry by teaching a class, giving a lecture or donating your time, please contact Cindy Schumacher at the above address or talk to Pastor Simon.

New Kindergarten Sabbath School and more
We have a new kindergarten sabbath school that will be starting next Sabbath, February 3rd. This class is designed for 4-6 year olds. If you have any items for donation such as throw pillows, area rugs, or other items that might make it cozy for the new group, please contact the coordinator, Doris Fulgham at 818-216-6748. They will be having fun with the great stories of the Bible. We are excited about this new opportunity for our kids!

Also starting next Sabbath, February 3rd will be a new Sabbath school for young adult ages focusing on Doctrines with Pastor Simon. The class will start at 10:30 a.m. Please contact Pastor Simon for more details. But, if you are interested in Bible Studies or have questions about the Bible, this is the place for you.

Super Bowl Party-Next Sunday
We will be having our annual Super Bowl party at Aaron and Denise Ramirez's home next Sunday, February 4th. The fun will start at 3 p.m. as the Colts take on the Bears. This is a great time together, complete with football, food, fun and fellowship! Hope to see you there!

Softball Sign-Ups and Concert Sign-Ups

For those who would like fun and fellowship while playing together...we are going to field a softball team this spring. Our hope is to have a co-ed team; however, that will all depend on who is interested in playing. So ladies WE NEED YOU! Likewise, the day of the week on which we will play will depend on the team’s make-up. More details can be found on the sign-up form on the back table at church on Sabbath. If you have any interest please sign up using the form at church or you may contact Fred Harlan (805-990-0578 or fwh-igt@earthlink.net). Play begins March 4.

Ecuador Mission Trip 2007
We finally have a site...it is a town called Chapulo, about 1 1/2 hours north of Guayaquil. We will be building a church there, and doing a few days of siteseeing afterwards. The approximate dates for the whole trip are August 1-12, 2007. If you are ready to make your commitment, we are ready to take it. We are asking for a $100 deposit by the end of January so that we can begin making air reservations. Please email or call Pastor Simon for questions or to confirm. This will once again be an awesome time of mission and fellowship, and some fun too!

Adventure Groups Starting Soon
You have been hearing a lot about our adventure groups. They are fellowship groups based on interests you are passionate about, and designed to be a place to invite your unchurched friends and neighbors. Some of you are planning adventure groups based on surfing, hiking, cross-stitching, beauty, prayer, autism support group and more. This Sabbath Ken Miller will be sharing about his passion - surfing. We will be having a sign-up Sabbath on February 10th at The Place. Financial Update for 2006
Once again, we would like to thank all of you for your continued support of The Place and our mission during 2006. In December we received $30,811 in tithe, giving us a yearly total of $180,356. This was approximately $10,000 more than we received during 2005. This tithe supports our local conference, our pastors and teachers and world mission. Thank you for that.

In December, we also received $25,986 in giving to our local church budget and about $4,000 in other giving to our church for specific projects. This gave us a total of $131,753 in giving to our church budget during this past year (our budget was $127,241 for the year.) We also received about $20,300 more in giving to The Place for specific projects (not counting the $35,859 for the Mexico Mission Project last summer.)

Thank you so much for your continued support of The Place and our mission. We count it a privelege to grow together as a community of faith. We invite your continued support of The Place and our mission during 2007. You may return your tithes and offerings at The Place or on-line at tithe.theplacechurch.com.
