This Week At The Place/Please Pray for Los Angeles
We look forward to seeing you at The Place this Sabbath. This Sabbath Pastor Simon will continue the third in his series on Revolutionary Living. This week's sermon is titled "Priority Praying" and focuses on Daniel chapter 6...the story of Daniel and the lion's den. Pastor Steve will be leading praise and worship. There will also be special music by Jabari Washington. We invite you all to stay for snacks and refreshments after church services in our cafe. We invite you to Sabbath School this week. We have children's Sabbath Schools for all ages, including our cradle roll, kindergarten, primary, junior/earliteen, and youth Sabbath school classes that meet at 10:30 a.m. Elder Rob Randall will be leading the adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans. Stop by and be blessed! This week Los Angeles and the whole Southland has been burning. We invite you to join in prayer each day as we pray for our city and the victims of this fire. Also, if you know of specific needs or families who have lost their homes or need help, please let us know so we can do whatever we can to assist them. New Meditation Vespers This Friday Night
Starting this Friday, October 26th, we will be having a monthly prayer and meditation vespers at The Place. Pastor Steve will be leading an informal acoustic praise and worship and we will have a time of meditation and prayer, as we focus on the topic of forgiveness. There will be refreshments following the fellowship time. Please join us for the first of these monthly vespers starting at 7:30 pm. All are welcome...and bring a friend! Evangelism Rally This Sabbath Afternoon
There will be an evangelism rally THIS Sabbath, Oct. 27th from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the Thousand Oaks SDA church (480 W. Gainsborough Rd., Thousand Oaks.) Joe Cirigliano is the rally speaker. The rally is in preparation for the L.A. - wide evangelism series planned for 2009 with Shawn Boonstra. All are invited. Fall Fest Celebration/Steven Curtis Chapman Concert
Our Fall Fest celebration is coming up on Saturday night, November 3rd. The Fall Fest will be held at the NPAA cafeteria and will start at 6:30 pm This year's theme is the 50's era and our fabulous band will be performing 50's songs. We invite you to dress up in your fabulous 50's best or other "Halloween" costumes for our Hallowed Eve. We would appreciate if you could sign up to bring soup, bread, or desserts in the lobby this Sabbath. All are welcome. And, we have a few tickets left for the Steven Curtis Chapman concert scheduled for this coming Saturday night (Oct. 27th) at 7:30 p.m. at Calvary Chapel. The Place is excited to be a participating church in the Community Christmas Shoppe that will take place on December 8 at the Newbury Park First Christian Church. The Christmas Shoppe is a Christian outreach to underprivileged families in our community sponsored by area churches. Here’s how you can help… We’re looking for individuals to sign up for a toy donation box that you can take to your workplace or any other place to collect toys—we will supply you with a decorated box. We also need volunteers to help out during the event. If you speak Spanish, you are especially needed! You can find more detailed information and a sign up sheet at the back of the church or call Joyce Thomsen at (805) 377-8892. We will not be having a game night at Robin Shea's home but instead will be meeting at Cecilia's house for a special hour of prayer (THIS Thursday, Oct. 25th). We will be praying especially for Erik, Alisa, and the girls. Cecilia lives at 1727 Calle Artigas in Thousand Oaks. It's a simple idea. When you go about your regular shopping, at no cost to you, an eScrip company will give some of its profits to The Place to pay for programs for our kids. If you have a VONS Club card, please register it online at escrip.com right now. A portion of your Vons grocery bill will go to children and youth of The Place - including the worthy student fund, materials, missions, etc. Our immediate goal is to sign up 100 cards for The Place. This Week At The Place/Parking! We look forward to seeing you at The Place this Sabbath. This Sabbath Pastor Simon will continue his series on Revolutionary Living. This week's sermon is titled "First Things First" and focuses on Deut. 5-6. Chad Reisser will be leading praise and worship. There will also be special music by Xavier Lemond.
And, for our members and regular attenders, we love our parking problem!! But, we want to make sure we have parking for our visitors and those going to some of the businesses we share our parking lot with. So, we are kindly requesting that, if possible, you could park a bit further away and walk a little, or park around the sides. That would be a help to us as we make The Place welcoming for our visitors and as we stay in the good graces of our neighbors. THANKS!

Fellowship Luncheon This Sabbath Our monthly fellowship luncheon is scheduled for this Sabbath, October 20th. Please stay for the fellowship and tasty food following church services.
This month's theme is soups, salads, & breads. Heidi Figueroa will be coordinating this month. If you would like to sign up to bring food, please contact Heidi at 805-583-2154, or just bring something!
Community Services Pumpkin Carving Project This Sunday On October 21st, the community services team will be having a pumpkin carving event for the children living at the Oxnard Battered Women's Shelter in Oxnard. We would very much appreciate your help for this project by supplying pumpkins and pumpkin carving tools for us to use. If you would like to help, please bring these items to church on Sabbath October 20th. If you have any questions see Joyce Thomsen after church or call her at (805) 377-8892. THANK YOU!
Also, we are looking forward to participating in the Ventura County wide "Christmas Shops"...a time to help needy families during the Christmas Season. You will be hearing alot more about this soon. And, we still have several very need families at The Place...if you can assist with gas cards or gift cards for food or with actual food or goods, please talk to Pastor Simon or Joyce Thomsen.
New Monthly Vespers & Meditation Services Starting on Friday, October 26th, we will be having a monthly prayer and meditation vespers at The Place. There will be a full band for praise and worship, a time for meditation, sharing, interaction, and fellowship (and no sermon!). Please join us NEXT FRIDAY for the first of these monthly vespers starting at 7:30 pm.

Fall 50's Fest - almost here! This year's Fall Fest is fast approaching. Fall Fest is scheduled for Saturday evening, November 3rd at the NPAA cafeteria. The fun will start at 6:30 pm and it will be a 50's theme party. Please sign up to bring food this Sabbath in the lobby. For more information, please contact Jona Cooke. The Place Fall Fest will feature our fantastic 50's band! And, we invite you to start gettting those 50's outfits ready!! We will have games and fun for kids of all ages.

This Week At The Place We look forward to seeing you at The Place this Sabbath. This Sabbath Bill Werner will be preaching at The Place. Bill's sermon is titled "What God and Rambo Have In Common". Steve Jackson will be leading praise and worship. There will also be special music by Allie Vete and Max.
Children's Church is scheduled for this coming Sabbath. Children's church begins at 11:30 am and will be hosted by the Roeske and Bachmann families. We invite all kids to come and join the fun.

Relay For Life This Saturday The Relay for Life event will be held this Saturday, October 13th at Newbury Park High School off of Reino. It is a 24 hour walk to raise money for the fight against cancer. If you are still interested in participating, please contact Kevin Emmerson at 805-501-8285. This year our Relay for Life team is proud to announce we will be walking to honor Erik Kalberg! We're excited for this opportunity to show our support of Erik in his fight. As of last Tuesday we have 17 members on our Relay For Life team but there's always room for more. If you're interested in getting involved with the prayer outreach team for the Relay, please contact Rachelle LeMond at 626-698-0889. And, we invite all of you to come out this Saturday and support our team members at any time during the walk or join in with our prayer team. The prayer team will be praying for anyone with prayer requests during this time! It will be a great ministry. The Relay begins this Saturday, October 13 at 10am and finishes 24 hours later. We hope to see you there!

This week's sermon is titled "What Does Success Look Like?" and will cover the book of 1 Samuel, chapter 16. Chad Reisser will be leading praise and worship. There will also be a children's story given by Jennifer Lew.

Visitor's Luncheon This Sabbath All visitors and new members are invited to enjoy our "visitor's luncheon" this Sabbath (10/6) after church services. This month's hosts are Bryan & Mindy Schwarz. Bryan & Mindy are located at 3578 Claridge Ct. in Simi Valley. Directions will be available this Sabbath.
The monthly luncheon is designed so that all visitors and new members can better acquaint themselves with one another. Of course, all members are welcome, we just ask that you bring food to share. Thanks!
Baptism This Sunday Everyone is invited to a special baptism this coming Sunday, October 7th. Sarah Volland will be getting baptized at Malibu State Creek Park. Please meet us at 11 am if possible (or come when you can!) There will be a mild hike, picnic, and baptism. Everyone (not just mommies) is invited to celebrate this time together and welcome Sarah into fellowship at The Place.
Malibu State Creek Park is located at 1925 Las Virgenes Rd. in Calabasas. Directions from church are: 101 South; take Lost Hills Rd exit-Exit 33 -turn slight right onto Lost Hills Rd; turn right on Las Virgenes Rd; Malibu Creek State Park is on your right.
Youth, Young Adult & Collegiate Stuff Youth: Friday October 5th: NTP vespers at NPAA starting at 6pm...ALL YOUTH are welcome! Thursday, October 11th: Small group bible study @ The Carlson's starting at 7 pm.
Young Adults: Sunday, October 7th: Basketball at the NPAA gym from 6-8 pm Tuesday, October 9th: Small group bible study @ The Carlson's starting at 7:30 pm. Friday, October 26th: Vespers at The Place.
Small Groups & Adventure Groups The last two weeks we had a great response in signing up for small groups and adventure groups. Many of those groups will be starting very soon. We encourage you to sign up for a small group and/or adventure group if you have not already done so. Some of the new groups will be forming in Moorpark, Woodland Hills and in Ventura, as well as the new youth and young adult small groups hosted by Pastor Steve and Daisy. This is a great way to get connected in a spiritual group and to join others who enjoy doing the things you do.
And, for those of you who are interested in discovering your place at The Place, Elder Bill Werner's adventure group will begin this Sabbath at 10:15 in the Sabbath School wing. Bill's group will be studying about finding your spiritual gifts. It is a 6 week adventure!

And, for those who like their kicks, don't forget that we have indoor soccer now EVERY Sunday at 8:00 p.m.at the NPAA gym.
Relay For Life-October 13th & Help For Needy Family The Relay for life event will be held on Saturday, October 13th. If you are interested in participating, please sign up this coming Sabbath as it will be the last Sabbath to do so, the walk is the following Sabbath. This year our Relay for Life team is proud to announce we will be walking to honor Erik Kalberg! We're excited for this opportunity to show our support of Erik in his fight. There is a needy family right in our church community. Due to astronomical medical bills, this family is in need of pretty much everything, from food to gas cards, clothes, etc. If you would like to donate food, money, gas cards, or anything else, please contact Pastor Simon at 805-498-2300.
