The Scoop at The Place - November 30, 2007
This Week At The PlaceWe look forward to seeing you at The Place this Sabbath. This coming Sabbath Pastor Simon will conclude his series on revolutionary living. This week's sermon is titled "No Present Like The Time" focusing on the book of Luke chapter 10, verses 38-42. Pastor Steve will be leading praise and worship. We invite you to Sabbath School this week. We have children's Sabbath Schools for all ages, including our cradle roll, kindergarten, primary, junior/earliteen, and youth Sabbath school classes that meet at 10:30 a.m. Elder Rob Randall will be leading the adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans. Friday Night Vespers & Meditation Time This WeekYou are invited to come to our Friday night vespers and meditation time scheduled for this coming Friday, November 30th. The vespers will begin at 7:30 p.m. at The Place. In addition to the praise and worship, we will have guest speaker Hue Fortson. Mr. Fortson is a former member of the People's Temple and will share his testimony of how he became a member of and survived Jim Jones' cult (the cult in which 900 members died in Guyana in 1978). Please come and share in this powerful time together. Pastor Steve will be leading worship and there will be snacks and refreshments to follow. Visitor's Luncheon This SabbathOur monthly visitor's luncheon is scheduled for this Sabbath following church services. The luncheon is intended for all visitors and new members. Of course all members are welcome, we just ask that you bring food to share. This month's hosts are Richard & Arla Caraboolad. The Caraboolad's are at 1460 Vaquero Drive in Simi Valley (805) 522-2474. Directions will be available at The Place. Christmas Shoppe - LAST Sabbath to bring toys!This Sabbath is December 1st and it will be the last Sabbath you'll be able to bring an unwrapped gift for the Christmas Shoppe. Thank you so much for your support which means so more than just providing gifts, it's an outreach with the love of Jesus to these families in our community. You can still sign up to be a volunteer for the event on Sabbath, Dec. 8. Between the offering and the car wash project, we were able to raise $800...what a blessing! Thank you for your support! Sabbath mornings: Sabbath School IS HAPPENING, so please feel free to wake up EARLY and come start the day with your friends (and Pastor Steve ;-). THIS Saturday night, December 1st: There will be a gathering at The Carlson's at 7pm , there will be a Christmas movie, christmas cookies, and a good time for The Place Youth. Saturday evening December 15th, Young Adult Christmas Party @ Eugene & Eunice Lee's home. The Place Christmas PartyThe holidays are once again upon us and we look forward to celebrating with you. Our annual Place Progressive Christmas Dinner Party is scheduled for next Saturday evening, December 8th. Our progressive party is a three part dinner held at three different homes (appetizers & salads, entrees, dessert and ornament exchange). We invite you to participate in this festive night, and please bring an ornament for the exchange during the third and final portion of the party. The appetizers will be hosted by Deane and Elvina Wolcott, the entrees will be hosted by Alan & Christa Reinach, and the dessert and ornament exchange portion of the party will be hosted by Jeremy & Edna Bachmann. A flyer next Sabbath will have all the details and directions. Please plan on spending this awesome time together...and invite a friend! Hotflashers Adventure GroupThe next Hot Flasher's move night will be Sunday, December 9 at 6:30 p.m. The event will be held at the Dappolonia "Hospital" located at 180 Via Rebecca in Newbury Park. Please come dressed as a doctor, nurse, x-ray tech, patient...... or just wear a holiday sweater. Bring a favorite holiday photo share. See you there. Check out all the groups on-line or in the flyer in the lobby of The Place. Prayer MinistryWe have started a prayer ministry at The Place. The ministry is for prayer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you would like to sign up for a time, there will be a sign up sheet in the lobby this coming Sabbath. There are so many things to pray for...and we need each other. We invite you to experience the power of God's answers to prayers.

This Week At The Place We want to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving and pray that you will have a blessed time celebrating our Lord Jesus Christ with your family and friends. We have so much to be thankful for.
This coming Sabbath Pastor Simon will continue with his series on revolutionary living. This week's sermon is titled "Order of Service" focusing on the book of Acts, chapter 6 verses 1-7. Pastor Steve will be leading praise and worship and Matt Fowler will have special music. We invite you to stay after church as the cafe will be open with refreshments and snacks.
We invite you to Sabbath School this week. We have children's Sabbath Schools for all ages, including our cradle roll, kindergarten, primary, junior/earliteen, and youth Sabbath school classes that meet at 10:30 a.m.

Community Service Projects/ Youth Car Wash This Sunday This coming Sunday, November 25th, the youth will have a car wash community service project to help raise money for needy families in our community and at The Place. The car wash will go from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will take place at Newbury Park Academy in their parking lot. If you have any old towels that you would like to donate for this project, please bring them to church this coming Sabbath. Thank you.
Next Sabbath is December 1 already and it's the last Sabbath you'll be able to bring an unwrapped gift for the Christmas Shoppe. Baby Shower This Sunday There will be a baby shower this Sunday for Jamie Neufeld. Jamie and her husband, Tim and their son Zack are expecting a new baby boy late December. You are invited to come and shower Jamie with love and gifts this Sunday at Cecilia's home in Thousand Oaks. The shower will be from 10:30-12:30 at 1727 E. Calle Artigas. Jamie is registered at Babies R Us.
Friday Night Vespers-Next Week You are invited to come to our Friday night vespers and meditation time scheduled for next Friday, November 30th. The vespers will begin at 7:30 p.m. at The Place. In addition to the praise and worship, we will have guest speaker Hue Fortson. We had a great turnout at the Carlson house for movie/game night in Nov....over 20 young adults cameand enjoyed haystacks, games and playing wii. Don't miss out on the Young Adult Christmas party at Eugene and Eunice Lee's home on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 6 pm. Dinner, movie and white elephant gift exchange.
The Place Christmas Party The holidays are once again upon us and we look forward to celebrating with you. Our annual Place Progressive Christmas Dinner Party is scheduled for Saturday evening, December 8th. Our progressive party is a three part dinner held at three different homes (appetizers & salads, entrees, dessert and ornament exchange). We invite you to participate in this festive night. Prayer 24/7 The Place is inaugurating a 24/7 prayer ministry.We will be asking people to sign up for a half hour slot (or more than one if they wish) to pray for our community and our church and our prayer needs each week. This week we are praying earnestly for Erik Kalberg and the healing of his terratoma cancer. Please continue to pray, and sign up this Sabbath to pray each week!
Mommies Ministry Our mommy of the month for November is Julie McHugh. If you would like to sign up to deliver the McHugh's a meal or to donate gift cards to grovery stores or gas stations, please contact Cecilia at cecilialiversidge@hotmail.com

This Week At The Place

Fellowship Luncheon This Sabbath Our monthly fellowship luncheon is scheduled for this coming Sabbath, November 17th. Happy Thanksgiving We want to wish our church family and friends a Happy Thanksgiving week. Each week as we hear your "God stories" we are amazed at the miracles God is doing in so many lives. We realize that this year many hearts are heavy due to physical, emotional and financial concerns. But, we have this amazing hope that the God of our God stories is continuing to bless us as we are faithful. You are a gift. We encourage you to be the hands and feet of God during this time of the year...as you bless one another with your prayers, phone calls and actions. As we do these things, we see God in action, and understand the real meaning of "thanksgiving." Thanks so much for the love you share on a daily basis and the joy of the Lord which is so evident in your lives. God bless.

The Scoop at The Place - November 8, 2007
This Week At The Place We trust that you are having a blessed week in Christ and that you are ready for another wonderful Sabbath. This coming Sabbath Pastor Simon will continue with the fifth in his series on Revolutionary Living. This week's sermon is titled "The Power of Ten...Days" which focuses on the book of Daniel, chapter 1. Special musical guest Hilary Watson will be leading praise and worship as well as sharing some of her music. And we invite you to stay after church for snacks and refreshments as our cafe will be open.
Children's church is also scheduled for this Sabbath starting at 11:30 in the fellowship hall. This month's leader is Jennifer Lew.

Hilary is a professional musician who is currently performing on a tour of Southern California...but mostly she is a young woman in love with Jesus. Volleyball This Saturday Night There will be a volleyball game night this Saturday night at the NPAA gymnasium. All are invited to come and play some ball. The fun will start at 7 p.m. We hope to see you there!

Financial Update October In October we received $9,183 in tithes (to the Southern California Conference) for a total of $146,457 for 2007. We also received $10,858 towards our local church budget, and about $1,700 towards other local church ministries. That gives us a total of $109,921 for our local church budget for 2007, with about another $40,000 given to other specific Place ministries. Thanks so much for your support.

This Week At The Place We trust that you are having a blessed week in Christ and that you are ready for another wonderful Sabbath. This week's sermon is titled "Free To Be Me" which focuses on the book of Genesis, chapter 2, verses 15-18. Dean Palacio will be leading praise and worship and the 7th & 8th grade CAES choir will be singing at The Place.

Fall Fest This Saturday Night Our Fall Fest celebration is scheduled for this Saturday night, November 3rd. The Fall Fest will be held at the NPAA cafeteria and will start at 6:30 pm This year's theme is the 50's era and our fabulous band will be performing 50's songs. We invite you to dress up in your fabulous 50's best or other "Halloween" costumes for our Hallowed Eve. We would appreciate if you could sign up to bring soup, bread, or desserts in the lobby this Sabbath. All are welcome and this is a great opportunity to invite your friends...especially those with children!
Hospitality Luncheon This Sabbath Our monthly hospitality luncheon is scheduled for this coming Sabbath afternoon following church services. The luncheon is especially organized for all visitors and new members. Of course, all members are welcome, we just ask that you bring food to share.
This month's hosts are Frank & Doris Fulgham. The Fulgham's are located at 359 Golden Moss Court in Simi Valley 805-584-9193.
Community Service-Food Drive This Sabbath Please remember our FOOD DRIVE this Sabbath, November 3. Your donations will go directly to a family in need within our church. Food items as well as gas and grocery store gifts cards would be greatly appreciated. If you would like to make a monetary donation make checks out to The Place and indicate “needy family” fund on your tithe envelope. THANK YOU!
Community Service-Christmas Shoppe The Place is excited to be a participating church in the Community Christmas Shoppe that will take place on December 8 at the Newbury Park First Christian Church. Here’s how you can be involved… Sign up for a toy donation box that you can take to your workplace or any other place to collect toys—you can pick up a box following church today. Hotflashers Adventure Group The next Hot-flasher's Movie Night is this Sunday, November 4th, at 6:30 pm. Please join us as we celebrate family traditions and the strong spirit of women during the civil war. Bring a teacup to warm your spirit and wear your favorite lace collar or brooch. As is our tradition, we will hold our celebration at the Dappolonia residence located at 180 Via Rebecca in Newbury Park.
