The Scoop at The Place - January 31, 2008
This Week At The PlaceWe look forward to worshipping with you this coming Sabbath. This Sabbath Ray Beeson will be preaching at The Place. Mr. Beeson will be speaking on prayer...and how to pray. The sermon will be focused on Luke 11:1 and 18:1.This week Pastor Steve will be leading praise and worship. There will also be a baby dedication for Timothy and Christopher Haynes, twin sons of David and Sandra Haynes. Ralph Figueroa and Sarah Saenz will be having special music. We invite you to Sabbath School this week. We have children's Sabbath Schools for all ages, including our cradle roll, kindergarten, primary, junior/earliteen, and youth Sabbath school classes that meet at 10:30 a.m. Elder Rob Randall will be leading the adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans. Stop by and be blessed! You are also invited to attend our community prayer time at The Place every Sabbath before Sabbath School starting at 9:45 a.m. If you would like to pray for our church and our community or if you would like to be prayed for, we invite you to come and share in this powerful time together. And, we have a new on-line giving program. Visitor & New Member Fellowship Luncheon This SabbathOur monthly visitor and new member fellowship luncheon is scheduled for this coming Sabbath, February 2nd. This month's hosts are Donna Pullen and Robin Atmore. The luncheon is an opportunity for all visitors and new members to become better acquainted with other members from The Place. If you are not a new member, we would love to have you share lunch with us as well, we just ask that you please bring food to share. Donna lives at 2709 Las Posas Circle in Camarillo. Directions will be available in the lobby after church. Super Bowl Party- This SundayWe are having our annual Super Bowl party this Sunday at 3:00 p.m. The festivities will be held at the Schwarz's home in Simi Valley at 3578 Claridge Court (805-522-2148.) Come and enjoy the fun and see the Patriots take on the Giants. We will have veggie burgers and drinks...but, if you can, please sign up to bring to bring a super bowl type snack. Directions will be available in the lobby after church. Please come and invite a friend. Prayer Seminar This Coming Week & Prayer 24/7There will be a prayer seminar with Ray Beeson, president of Overcomers Ministries, and international speaker and author of numerous books on prayer and spiritual warfare. For more than 30 years Ray has traveled throughout the United States as well as Canada teaching and training people about prayer and spiritual warfare. Ray Beeson will be doing a weekend seminar at The Place this coming week. Mr. Beeson is preaching this Sabbath and continues his seminar Monday through Wednesday nights (Feb. 4, 5, 6) from 7 - 8:30 p.m. We are co-hosting this seminar with the Vineyard church. You can look up more of his work at www.overcomersministries.net. The seminar is free. And, we continue to reach out to those of you who are willing to pray for at least 30 minutes a week for The Place and our community. You may sign up in the lobby to be part of our 24/7 prayer team! This is the last week to join. The class meets @10 - 11:15 a.m. on Sabbath mornings. We are planning a mission trip this year to Chile for August of this year. Many have already signed up, if you want to go, now is the time to get your name on the list. We are getting full already! Contact Pastor Simon for more information. Valentine's Dinner - Sat. Nt. Feb. 9thThe Place has its annual Valentine's Dinner next Saturday night, Feb. 9th. It will be at Ottavio's Restaurant in Camarillo starting at 6:00 p.m. Each person will be able to order off the regular menu, so there is no set price this year. This has been a great time together each year and we invite you to come out and have a great time again this year. Please sign up in the lobby this Sabbath or with Robin Atmore @ 805-901-4866. New Directory/Community ServiceWe want you to know that we have a FINAL draft of the 2008 Church Directory in the lobby...but, we want to make sure we all the correct info., so we ask that you please check your entry and make any necessary additions, edits or changes. We would love to include you and to have all your correct information! And, if you are interested in community projects or if you have any ideas about community outreach, please come to our meeting this Sabbath, February 2nd, at 9:30 in the Sabbath School class room. We need your ideas and participation to continue to be a real blessing to our community.

This Week At The Place We look forward to worshiping with you this coming Sabbath. This Sabbath Bill Werner is preaching on Exodus 13. His sermon is titled "The Roundabout Way." This week Dean Palacio is leading praise and worship, and Ralph Figueroa will have special music. We invite you to stay after church this coming Sabbath as we will have snacks and refreshments in the cafe.
We also want you to know that we have a draft of the 2008 Church Directory in the lobby...we know there may be mistakes, we ask that you please check your entry and make any necessary additions, edits or changes.

Monthly Vespers-Next Friday Night We invite you to our next vespers gathering scheduled for next Friday evening, January 25th at 7:30 p.m. Our special guest, Ray Beeson, will be speaking about encouragement and how to stay encouraged by God in this stressful world. Ray is an international speaker and author of several books on prayer and spiritual warfare. Pastor Steve will be leading praise and worship with our special worship band and there will be refreshments and snacks served afterwards in our fellowship time.
Bowling Night We have a bowling night planned for this month's social. Please join the fun next Saturday night, January 26th, starting at 5:30 @ Harley's Bowl in Simi. The cost is a mere $4 a person. Please sign up to reserve your spot in the lobby or with Jona Cooke at misscokie@aol.com.

The Place has begun a new prayer ministry that goes 24/7. Our goal is to have someone praying for our church community and special needs and requests on an ongoing 24/7 basis. Youth & Young Adult Stuff Youth: 1. Regular Sabbath school this weekend. 2. Thursday night small group at the Carlson's is back in session. 3. January 18th, THIS Friday night; Newbury Teen Power vespers at Sycamore Cove with games, smores, and worship. 4. February 1st, Friday night BIG HOUSE Vespers - @ The Place starting at 7:00 p.m. 5. February 8th, Friday night NTP vespers @ NPAA. 6. February 16th, Sabbath, youth outreach day (more details next week). 7. February 16th, Saturday evening, youth party (more details next week).
Young Adults: 1. Small Group back in session on Tuesday nights @ the Carlson's home. 2. January 18th-20th, San Francisco mission trip with Pastor Steve. If you would like to attend a mission trip like this in the future, please contact Pastor Steve. 3. January 25th, Friday night vespers @ The Place starting at 7:30 p.m. 4. February 2nd, Sabbath afternoon, a young adult outing to the Getty Villa in Pacific Palisades at 2:30 p.m. There are 16 free tickets, and a $8 parking fee. Discipleship 2008 To help make 2008 a fantastic year of spiritual growth, we have some new things planned. There will be a ten week discipleship class starting Sabbath, January 26th with Pastor Simon focusing on "Learning To Let God's Word Speak To You". You may sign up with Pastor Simon or at The Place. The class will meet 10:15 - 11:15 a.m. on Sabbath mornings for 10 weeks.
There will also be a six week class starting in January with Bill Werner on - "Learning Your Spiritual Gifts & How To Get Involved in Ministry". The group will meet Wednesdays from 7-8 at Bill's house, 2905 Barnes St., Simi Valley 93065. It begins Jan 30th and ends March 12th with no class on Feb. 13th. Super Bowl Party & Valentine's Celebration Please pull out your calendars, there are some social happenings planned for the near future.
February 3rd, Sunday afternoon, Super Bowl Party @ The Schwarz' home in Simi Valley. Sign up this Sabbath in the lobby if you can bring something to the party! February 9th, Saturday night, a Valentine's Celebration, details to come.
Mommies Ministry A new year is here, and we have some great events planned for mommies and their little ones as well as just for the "girls."

The Scoop at The Place - January 10, 2008
This Week At The Place We look forward to worshiping with all of you this coming Sabbath. This Sabbath Pastor Simon will continue with his series on the story of Joseph. This Sabbath we will tune into Pastor Simon's sermon titled "Here Comes The Dreamer," which looks at Genesis 37:12-36. Steve Jackson will be leading praise and worship. Jenn Lew will be leading out in Children's Church.
We invite you to Sabbath School this week. We have children's Sabbath Schools for all ages, including our cradle roll, kindergarten, primary, junior/earliteen, and youth Sabbath school classes that meet at 10:30 a.m. If you have any old DVDs or CDs that you would like to donate to our newly forming children's media library, we would be very appreciative! The media library would give children an opportunity to view and/or listen to different movies and music and then return them for other ones. Please contact Lilian Alves @310-948-6476.

Baptisms/Fellowship Luncheon This Sabbath We are so happy to announce that we have three baptisms scheduled for this coming Sabbath, January 12th: Donna Goldman, and Jim & Rosa Brewster. It is a blessing to welcome new members to our Place and to continue to grow together in God's spirit. The baptisms and fellowship luncheon will take place at Jennie Kay Dappalonia's home following our church service. Jennie Kay's home is located at 180 Via Rebecca in Newbury Park. (499-6524.) Directions will be available at The Place. Please bring food to share if possible...but, we would love to have you all there.
If you are interested in studying the bible or in getting baptized, please contact Pastor Simon or Pastor Steve.

Spring Softball The Placers will field a co-ed softball team this spring. We will play on Sunday evenings in Newbury Park. Play will begin on March 2 through mid-July. You must be at least 16 years old to play. There will be a $20 perperson participation fee to cover registration expenses. (If you want to play, but need help with the $, just let Fred know.) If you are interested a sign-up sheet will be in the café after church or contact Fred Harlan at 805-990-0578 or fwh-igt@earthlink.net. If you signed up in the Fall, Fred will be contacting you.

The Scoop at The Place - January 3, 2008
This Week At The Place We look forward to celebrating the first Sabbath of 2008 with you this week. This Sabbath Pastor Simon will begin a new series for a new year...focused on the story of Joseph. This Sabbath we will look at Genesis 37...the story of Joseph and his coat of many colors. So, in the spirit of Joseph, we invite you to wear your LOUDEST jacket/coat to The Place this Sabbath (men and women, boys and girls!) Steve Carlson will be leading praise and worship, and Allie Vete and friends will share a special music.
We invite you to Sabbath School this week. We have children's Sabbath Schools for all ages, including our cradle roll, kindergarten, primary, junior/earliteen, and youth Sabbath school classes that meet at 10:30 a.m. If you have any old DVDs or CDs that you would like to donate to our newly forming children's media library, we would be very appreciative! Many youth just got back from their ski trip to Big Bear and we all had a GREAT TIME! If you weren't able to join us, please plan for next time!

January 18-20 pastor Steve will be gone with a few young adults on an inner city mission trip to San Francisco. This trip will be happening again in the near future for all young adults interested. And, there will also be a seminar on prayer and overcoming temptation and spiritual warfare with Ray Beeson scheduled for the first week in February.

Simon's Wish List Pastor Simon has some ministry ideas for his Christmas Wish List. If you are passionate about any of them, please talk to him. 1)A couple interested in leading a monthly couples café…or night out; or in leading out the planning of a couples retreat. 2)A family with high school aged youth who would like to be more involved. 3)People interested in technology/web ministry/audio/video. 4)Small group leaders in Simi Valley and Moorpark areas. 5)Prayer People - to join our 24/7 prayer team. 6)Anyone interested in leading a Sabbath afternoon ministry for music or flowers in a hospital/nursing home. 7)A person interested in helping disciple juniors/earliteens. 8) A few willing individuals to help provide snacks and refreshments for our monthly Friday night vespers. If you would like to help with this ministry, please contact Judy Ayars at (805) 368-2644. Thank you. 9) Whatever else you are passionate about!
