The Scoop at The Place - July 31, 2008
This Week At The PlaceWe look forward to seeing you this coming Sabbath at The Place. Pastor Simon will continue his series on a summer fling with Jesus. This week's sermon is titled "You're Weird" and focuses on Luke 8:40-56. Pastor Steve will be leading worship and there will be special music by Ashley Peterson. There will also be a children's story given by Brian and Christina and a surprise drama. We also invite you to Sabbath school starting at 10:30 a.m. We have several classes ranging from cradle roll class to adult classes. We have something for everyone! We hope you’ll stop by and be blessed. Our prayer committee meets every Sabbath morning starting at 9:45 a.m. to pray for individual as well as community needs. Beach Vespers This FridayIt's summer time and that means we get to enjoy one Friday night a month at the beach! We hope that you will join our beach vespers this Friday, August 1st. Our evening will begin at 6:00 p.m. at Sycamore Cove. Come and enjoy a wonderful time at the beach complete with a beautiful sunset, dinner, worship and time in the word. Pastor Steve will be leading praise, and Pastor Simon will lead out in worship. Please feel free to bring a dish to share if you would like...but, come anyways! Visitor Luncheon This SabbathWe will have our visitor's luncheon this coming Sabbath. This month's hosts are Deanne and Elvina Wolcott. We hope that all visitors and new members (as well as others if you just need some company) will come for lunch and an opportunity to better acquaint themselves. All church members are welcome, we just ask that you bring food to share. The Wolcott's are located at 3216 Casino Drive in Thousand Oaks. Directions will be available this Sabbath. Chile Mission TripThere will be a special dedication service held this coming Sabbath for all of the volunteers going on this year's mission trip to Chile. The mission trip volunteers are scheduled to depart from Los Angeles next Wednesday night, August 6th and will arrive on Monday evening, August 18th. We will be praying over all volunteers and dedicating this mission at Church this Sabbath. Also, following our service, we will have the drawing of the tickets for our raffle winners in the cafe. So, you will have one more chance to financially support this mission this Sabbath at The Place. Got Group?If you are seeking to cultivate more of a spiritual life, or love bible study, or just love hanging out with friends, we have several small groups that meet on a regular basis. There may be one near you: Denise/Aaron Ramirez in Newbury Park; Rodney/Cindy Andregg in Newbury Park; Simon/Cecilia Liversidge in Thousand Oaks; Steve/Daisy Carlson in Newbury Park; Robin Atmore/Donna Pullen in Camarillo; Leila/Marcello Vallado in Newbury Park;Solomon/Bola Faka in Woodland Hills; There will be a special sign up day in September. And, if you would like to start a new one, please contact Pastor Simon. Community Service & Relay For LifeTOO MUCH FRUIT? Are you experiencing an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables growing in your yard right now? So much so, that you’re not sure what to do with it all? Manna Food Bank would love to receive some of your bounty. Bring your fruit and vegetables to church THIS SABBATH, August 2, and we will deliver them to Manna. There will be a box by the door. Thank you! The Place is excited to once again be participating in our local Relay for Life, sponsored by the American Cancer Society. Come join us for this exciting 24 hour outreach/fundraising event on October 4 and 5. The relay is to raise money for cancer treatment, research and advocacy. For information or to learn how to sign up free online, call our team captain, Kevin Emmerson @ 805-501-8285. We had a great time last year at this event and invite you to come and join us this year in a great community event for a great cause! Youth & Young Adult Stuff Youth:-Wednesdays - weekly youth group at NPAA Bible room at 7:00 p.m. (last one for summer happening next week, Aug 6). - Saturday - weekly Sabbath school at 10:30 a.m. at The Place - NACIMIENTO WAKEBOARDING TRIP - details are being finalized, so please let Pastor Steve know if you have ANY interest in going on this trip. The trip is ONLY for high school kids (those who just graduated from 8th grade are fine and those who just graduated this year from high school are fine). The cost is $30 per/person. We are going to leave Friday morning (Aug 15) and return Sunday (Aug 17). We have 5 boats lined up at this time, so it's going to be GREAT! - Friday, Aug 22 - youth beach vespers / dedication of the new school year / baptism's in the ocean. More details to come. Young Adults:- Tuesdays - weekly young adult small group @ Carlsons home at 7:30 p.m. - Aug 10 (Sunday) - day trip to Aquarium of the Pacific. Please contact Pastor Steve for more details (no social on Aug 23!!! this has moved to the 24th... see below). - Aug 24 (Sunday) - barbeque at Eunice and Eugene Lee's house. More details to come. - Sept. 5 - young adult vespers... details to come. Upcoming Social EventsPlease pull out your calendars. We have several social events planned for the month of August. Game night on Saturday night, August 9th at Donna Pullen's home hosted by Robin Fosler. And, a Beach Day on Sunday, August 24th at Zuma Beach. There will be more details to come.

Chile Mission Trip Our Chile Mission is fast approaching, a group of volunteers will be leaving on Wednesday evening, August 6th for Santiago Chile where they will be building a church outside the village of San Felipe, half an hour north of Santiago. Please pray for all those participating in this wonderful cause. All of the fund-raisers are done, except for our lego church...we would like to finish it! $1 will buy you a brick to add to our lego church...we are about $400 short of completing it! And, we are still selling raffle tickets for the many great prizes that have been donated! We will have drawings next Sabbath, August 2. We will also be having a special dedication Sabbath that day. We hope you can be a part of it.
Beach Vespers NEXT Friday We hope that you will join our beach vespers that is scheduled for next Friday, August 2nd. Our evening will begin at 6:00 p.m. at Sycamore Cove. Come and share in the fellowship, time in the word, and in a delicious dinner. If you can help by bringing some food to share. Thanks for that.

Youth & Young Adult Stuff Youth: PARTY This Saturday Night! Wednesday youth bible study @ 7 p.m. @ NPAA bible room. Saturday Sabbath school class @10:30 at the Place. Saturday, July 19 - youth house party at Gaines' home in Simi Valley. There will be a vespers @ 7:30 p.m.followed by a party with swimming, games, and a movie. If you need transportation there, please meet @ NPAA @ 7pm. The party will be ending around 11pm. August 9th - youth social (details to come). Weekend of Aug. 15-17th Wakeboarding trip to Lake Nacimiento. If you are interested in coming, please contact Pastor Steve as soon as possible to reserve your spot.

Mission Trip Information - Need help with Garage Sale this Sunday Our mission trip to Chile is just around the corner and we are working hard to raise money for the trip. We still have a few more events left. If you can help with the garage sale this Sunday, please contact Donna Goldman. Lego church: Each Sabbath we continue building our "Lego Church" representing the church we are building in Chile. We invite you to buy a brick or several bricks in the lobby after church...each brick is $1. Garage Sale: Don't forget to bring any items you may have for the garage sale Donna Goldman will have. She is willing to pick-up if needed. Her contact number is 805/407-9535. She is collecting through July 19th. We need help THIS Sunday at 6 a.m. to put out garage sale stuff. The sale is scheduled from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. We also need someone with a truck to pick-up items before hand. Thanks so much . Community Service Meeting This Sabbath There will be a community service meeting this Sabbath at 9:30 a.m. This will be the first meeting of this year. If you are interested in participating or knowing more, please come join us. Hospital Ministry Our Hospital Ministry is planning another outing to a nearby hospital to sing to patients. It will be one of the next two Sabbaths. We will let you know as soon as it is certain.

This Sabbath we will have a Special Dedication Sabbath as we kick off our new ministry year by introducing those in leadership at The Place and celebrating our new members. We will also ordain our new elder, Robert Nomelli, yeah!!
Pastor Simon will be preaching and will continue his summer fling series focusing on Luke 6:27-36 with a sermon titled, "You Want Me To Do What?" Steve Jackson will be leading us in worship, and we invite you to stay after services as our cafe will be open for fellowship and snacks/refreshments.

Beach Vespers and Baptism THIS Friday Night at ZUMA BEACH There will be a beach vespers this Friday at 6:30 p.m. at ZUMA Beach (following the youth group's beach afternoon). Supper will be served promptly at 6:30 p.m. followed by vespers and the baptism of Sinahy Fuentes. Pastor Steve will lead some worship and Pastor Simon will lead the spiritual thought. Come and share the blessing and welcome Sinahy into our fellowship Directions: 101 south to Kanan Road - follow to PCH, go north on PCH about 1 mile and Zuma is right there. We will be at the south end of the beach right near the volleyball courts, by Lifeguard tower #3. There is plenty of free parking on the street if you prefer.

PRESTO PASTA: There will be another fundraiser for the mission trip to Chile. This time, the fundraiser will take place at Presto Pasta in Camarillo & Newbury Park. Please eat at Presto Pasta in Camarillo or Newbury Park on July 22, 2008. Please be sure to mention the Chile Mission Trip (or take flyer) when placing order.
Hotflashers Night Out This Saturday Night, July 12th. We finally have a date for our theater night at Glendale Centre Theater, this Saturday night, July 12. The show is Singing in the Rain and starts at 8 Pm. (The Sunday date we had planned on first was sold out long ago.) We had originally planned this as a mother-daughter outing, and some mother-daughter combos are coming, but we are also opening it up to anyone who wants to come (some husbands are coming). All are welcome. The theater box office # is (818) 244-8481; everyone can purchase their own tickets; as of today, there are tickets available for $25.50. Please let Jennie Kay or Doris know if you are coming and if you would be interested in meeting before the performance for dinner or after for dessert.
NPAA Golf Fund-raiser
Come join us at the Roy Brasher ReMax/Olsen 15th Annual Newbury Park Adventist Academy Fall Golf Classic. On Monday, August 25, 2008 at Sunset Hills Country Club. All proceeds benefit worthy student fund. 7:45 am Tee-Off; Shotgun Start. For questions call NPAA at (805) 498-2191. Fellowship Lunch Next Sabbath/Upcoming Concert Our monthly fellowship luncheon is scheduled for next Sabbath, July 19th following church services. Financial Update for June Thanks so much for your faithful giving. Through June we have received $94,400 in tithe, which goes directly to the Southern California Conference. We have also received about $85,000 in giving to The Place and our local church budget and other specific funds. Although we are still behind budget by about $24,000, we are only about $11,000 behind our actual expenses so far this year so far. But, we continue to need your support. The Scoop at The Place - July 3, 2008
This Week at The Place Happy Fourth of July! We hope that you and your loved ones have a wonderful Independence Day celebrating our country and the freedom we enjoy. We look forward to celebrating our country and the freedom we have in Jesus with you this coming Sabbath at The Place. This Sabbath Pastor Steve will be preaching and continuing the sermon series "A Summer Fling with Jesus" with his sermon titled "What Would My Friends Think?" There will be a drama by Walter Hamlin, a special music by Pastor Steve, Dan Hartman and Ken Adams. Chad Reisser will be leading worship.
Visitor Luncheon This Sabbath There will be a visitor luncheon this coming Sabbath at Ron & Patti Fausset's home in Thousand Oaks. We invite all visitors and new members to attend. Of course all members are welcome, we just ask that you bring food to share. The luncheon will take place following church services. The Fausset's are located at 1827 Summer Cloud Drive in Thousand Oaks. Directions will be available in the lobby this Sabbath.

New Church Officers/Special Dedication Sabbath next week Next Sabbath, July 12th, we will be celebrating our new church officer year by introducing our new church officers. Pastor Simon will have a special sermon presenting our Vision for The Place and our local community and inviting your commitment. Our new Church Officer list is ready will be available in the lobby this Sabbath for your perusal. However, it's never too late to get involved. If you are interested in some area of ministry, please see Pastor Simon.

Beach Vespers Next Friday We will have a beach vespers next Friday night, July 11th at Zuma Beach starting at 6:30 p.m.(following the youth beach time.) During our vespers, Sinahy Fuentes will be baptized by Pastor Steve. Come and enjoy the dinner, worship and baptism. If possible, please bring some food to share. Please stay tuned for the exact location next week, but it will be close to the volleyball courts at the south end of Zuma Beach.
