The Place is making a movie!
The
168 Film Project is faith based competition where groups have one week
(168 hours) to film an 11 minute short film based on a Bible text and
Christian theme. We will participate this year and need all help we can
get (from actors to cameramen to editors). Our film will be shown at the
168 film festival in Burbank at the end of March. If you would like to
be involved, or have any resources you would be willing to provide
please let us know. For more info, contact Jason Mosley 310-824-3816.

Chelsea Cameron Coming to The Place
We are
so pleased and excited to announce that Chelsea Cameron will be our
guest speaker on Monday evening, January 30th. Chelsea will be speaking
on the topic of parenting. Chelsea currently teaches a class every
Monday morning at Calvary Community "Parenting 24/7" which is based on
the book, Shepherding a Child's Heart. This will be a wonderfully
insightful night where parents will be inspired to raise their children
based on biblical principles. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in
the sanctuary. Men and women are welcome to attend. There will be
child care provided and the cafe will be open afterward for a time of
fellowship. There is no fee for the appearance, but the Camerons would
appreciate donations for their ministry "Camp Firefly", a camp for
terminally ill children. We hope to
see you there!
Memorial Fund for Adam David Appel
As many of you know by now, little Adam
Appel passed away last month at six months of age due to a seizure as a
result of malaria. Many of you have expressed profound sadness and have
asked if you could help in any way. We have established a memorial
fund that will be dedicated to help build the hospital in Mondou, Tchad,
where James, Sarah and Miriam are at the present time. Go to http://www.gofundme.com/adam-appel. You can always support their mission by giving at www.theplacechurch.com and marking your donations for the Bere Mission. Thanks so much for your continued love, prayers and support for this family.
Adventurer Trip
The
Adventurers are for ALL kids ages 5-9. They are planning a trip to
Morro Bay and Pismo Beach to see the Butterflies and Sea Elephants on
the weekend of January 28 & 29. Please respond no later than
Friday, January 20, to let Angelo Baher know if you are attending the
event.
Academic Bowl 2012
You are all
invited to come support the 5th & 6th graders of Conejo Adventist
Elementary School (Zane Arteaga, Ashley Ramos, Makani Crosby, and Nathan
Lew) as they compete in the first annual Academic Bowl. Your very own
pastor, Simon Liversidge, will be the official judge as CAES contends
for the academic award desired by many, but achieved by few. The other
participants attend Crescenta Valley Adventist Elementary and San
Fernando Adventist Elementary -- worthy opponents indeed. The tournament
begins at 6:00p.m. on February 4th and will be held at the Living
Stones Church in the Fellowship Hall, 6235 Honolulu Avenue, La
Crescenta. Light refreshments will be served, so bring lots of
enthusiasm and a slight appetite.
Donate used cell phones to help our troops
Cellphones for soldiers is a non-profit
organization dedicated to providing deployed troops cost-free methods
to communicate with family while serving in the military. They have
provided more than 114 million minutes of free talk time to service men
and women stationed around the world. Funds raised from the recycling of
cell phones are used to purchase pre-paid international calling cards.
To help, you can donate your used cell phones, chargers and
any accessories by bringing them to church. Look for the collection box
this Sabbath through February 18.
